Songs, Songs, Songs

“My complete commitment is to the style, beauty, and elegance of the classic American Songbook. The songs and musicals of Richard Rogers, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, and George Gershwin, among many others of that era, had melodies you could hum when you were leaving the theater, harmonic subtleties that resonated in your soul, and lyrics that lingered in your head.

If you like the niche I’ve chosen for my songs and musicals, you will enjoy my Creative Works.”

-- Stephen Kravette

Stephen Kravette has written music and lyrics for two musicals. And the book as well as the music and lyrics for two additional theatrical properties. His first show, produced in Hartford (Connecticut) and as summer stock around New England, was quite successful. He has also written a trunkfull of songs.

He was commissioned, for three years, to write the scripts for United Artist’s promotional TV programs for newly released films. One of these, for "The Bridge At Remagen" featuring George Segal, was nominated for an Emmy.

Stephen's father was a General Manager for Vinton Freedley and Mike Todd on Broadway and his childhood acquaintances included Danny Kaye, Mary Martin, Ethel Merman, Bob Hope, Jimmy Durante, Bert Lahr, Mae West, Nanette Fabray, and other Broadway Greats of the early 1940's. Stephen began writing songs as a child and, after writing music and lyrics for his first show at the age of 19, he was encouraged by a close family friend, Irving Berlin, to pursue a career writing for the Broadway musical stage.
